we real cool

We real cool is a poem written by Gwendolyn Brooks. The poem is about little boys skipping school one day. Gwendolyn saw them while she was walking around her town. She wonder what they were thinking about and how they felt about skipping school. If someone did not know anything about poetry they would know that this does rhyme. In the very first stanza, which is the arrangement of certain number in lines, the third and sixth words rhyme. This poem has four stanzas.  This poem also has couplets in it. A Couplet is a pair of rhymed lines that may or may not within a stanza. The poem We Are Cool also has repetition in it. An example of repetition would be that the word we is in every sentence in this poem. I think that this poem is an epitaph because it is a very short poem. This would have a theme of skipping school and how they feel about their decision to not go to school.  The image of this poem We Are Cool is also not going to school and deciding not to go that day. This poem has many examples of terms used in poetry and should be use to show people how a poem could be written.

  1. I like the rhythm of the poem and the way it sounds when read aloud. Before I knew the story behind the poem I thought the writer was the one who was going out and being mischievous .
